A Dream Proposal at Villa del Balbianello, Lake Como


There are few places in the world more iconic—or more romantic—than Villa del Balbianello. Nestled on a lush peninsula in Lenno, overlooking the deep blue waters of Lake Como, it’s no wonder this location is a favorite for both weddings and unforgettable proposals.

When Marco reached out to me, he had a clear vision: a timeless, private moment to ask the most important question of his life. He wanted it elegant, cinematic, and intimate. And Villa Balbianello was the perfect setting.

We arranged everything to keep the moment discreet and natural. The villa opened just for them in the early morning hours, with soft light pouring over the gardens and the lake still calm and quiet. Marco led Sofia through the path lined with ancient trees and ivy-covered stone walls, her hand in his, unaware of what was coming.

As they reached the famous terrace—the one you’ve seen in movies like Star Wars and James Bond—he turned, took her hands, and got down on one knee.

Tears. Laughter. A whispered “yes.”

And that perfect pause in time, surrounded by nothing but the lake, the breeze, and the echo of a promise.

As a Lake Como proposal photographer, I always aim to blend into the background, capturing real emotion without interruption. This session was all about preserving that authenticity—no poses, just pure joy.

After the proposal, we explored the villa together for an impromptu engagement session. The architecture, the light, the mood—it was all effortless. Every frame told a piece of their story.
